High Energy Coal: All types of coal that rank higher than brown coal, are compact, difficult to brittle, are harder, have relatively low air content, generally the wood structure is not visible anymore, when handling (coal handling) is relatively resistant to physical damage. Calorie value > 7000 calories per gram (in dry form–ASTM).

High – Volatile A Bituminous ; The coal group in the bituminous rank has a fixed carbon percentage of <69%, a volatile matter content percentage of >31%, and a calorific value of >14000 BTU/lb (dry).

Asphalt B High – Volatile; Coal coal in bituminous rank which has a calorific value of >13000 BTU/lb – <14000 BTU/lb (dry). Asphalt C High – Volatile; Coal in the bituminous rank which has a calorific value of >11500 BTU/lb – <13000 BTU/lb (dry).
